Recently, the 100th FXN5C locomotive successfully rolled off the line, marking the model’s entry into a new stage of large-scale production.
The FXN5C locomotive represents a new-generation mainline diesel locomotive independently developed by CRRC Qishuyan, which features a standardized, platform-based, and modular design. It integrates intelligent connectivity with improved energy efficiency and environmental performance. Compared to conventional DC-traction diesel locomotives, the FXN5C significantly increases single-locomotive hauling capacity and operational efficiency, while significantly reducing fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. Its development has also helped build and further improve the technical platform for China's domestically developed 4,400-horsepower-class mainline diesel locomotives.
As of January 2026, this locomotive model has accumulated more than 6.25 million kilometers of operation, undertaking freight hauling tasks for China Railway Taiyuan Group and Shanghai Group, as well as industrial railway users in Guangdong and Zhejiang. “The locomotives have demonstrated a low failure rate, fewer fault reports, and a significant reduction in locomotive breakdowns,” commented a customer technician at the Jiangcun maintenance workshop. “From both operational and maintenance perspectives, we highly welcome this new locomotive model.”
