Recently, the opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for CRRC's hydrogen-powered locomotive exported to Chile was held at the administrative headquarters of FCAB in Antofagasta, Chile.
The locomotive was developed based on the high-power locomotive platform by CRRC Qishuyan, utilizing a modular design. The locomotive features environmental friendliness, high power, energy efficiency. It is powered by “hydrogen fuel cell + power battery”, and its only discharge is water, with no pollutants such as nitrogen compounds and sulfides. There is no emission of carbon dioxide either. Customized design was conducted to cater to the local conditions, including salt mist, ultraviolet radiation, sandstorms, steep slopes, small curves, urban sections, and specific needs like high-flow hydrogen fueling.
The locomotive is the first hydrogen-powered locomotive in Chile and South America. The locomotive will serve cargo transportation around the ports of Antofagasta, injecting strong green momentum into the local economic development and supporting the local railway sector's energy transition.
