Hybrid Shunting Locomotives Made by CRRC for Hungary Delivered and Put into Operation

FORM: 04/11/2024 Browse number:

Recently, two electric-electric hybrid shunting locomotives custom-made by CRRC for Rail Cargo Hungaria (RCH) were delivered and put into operation. Developed and manufactured by CRRC Zhuzhou, the locomotives had completed a trial operation of 40,000 kilometers in Hungary, and their simple and easy operation and good safety performance have been highly recognized by professionals.

The locomotives meet the requirements of EU’s Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSI), and can be used for shunting operation in repair shops, vehicle depots, and shunting yards, as well as for light-duty traction tasks for mainline freight. Maximum towing capacity is 2,000 tons, and a single locomotive can tow 1500 tons continuously for over three hours.

The locomotives adopt the dual-power AC transmission technology of “overhead contact line + power battery”, using lithium titanate batteries as power batteries to meet the shunting needs of areas with and without the overhead contact lines. The locomotives adopt high-capacity energy storage technology, allowing the batteries to be charged via the overhead contact line in areas equipped with such infrastructure, thereby enhancing overall locomotive efficiency and achieving zero emissions. The locomotives are equipped with an automatic electro-pneumatic brake system to satisfy the frequent starting and stopping needs of new energy locomotives, and boast good safety, operability and maintainability.
