On April 13, in order to further satisfy the needs of passengers of various countries for cross-border travel on China-Laos Railway, railway authorities of China and Laos have added one pair of international passenger trains between China’s Xishuangbanna and Laos’ Luang Prabang, two famous tourist cities.
The international passenger trains between Xishuangbanna and Luang Prabang are “Fuxing” CR200J power-centralized EMU designed and manufactured by CRRC. The train consists of 8 cars, including 1 first-class car and 7 second-class cars (including a dining car), with a total capacity of 720 passengers. Chinese and Laotian standard power sockets are installed under each row of seats, and Chinese, Lao and English are adopted to display tourist service information and provide broadcasting services.
The added international passenger trains run 4 days a week (Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday) at the beginning, and stop at six stations, namely Xishuangbanna, Mengla, Mohan, Boten, Muong Sai and Luang Prabang. The entire journey takes only about 5 hours, with the customs clearance at the railway port included. Passengers can take a day trip between Xishuangbanna and Luang Prabang by train.
