On April 13, the international passenger train services of the China-Laos Railway marked their second anniversary. Over the past two years, these trains have gained popularity among both Chinese and international travelers for their affordability, speed and comfort. They have become a "golden link" connecting China and Laos, and injected tremendous momentum into the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative.

On April 13, 2023, the Fuxing CR200J power-concentrated trains and Lancang trains—both developed by CRRCwere launched for cross-border operation between Kunming, China, and Vientiane, Laos. This marked the official start of international passenger train services on the China-Laos Railway.

As of April 12, the railway has operated 74,000 passenger train trips, serving more than 50.8 million passengers. In particular, its international passenger trains have transported 1.91 million passengers, including 487,000 cross-border ones.

The trains are customized for operation on the China-Laos Railway. For the high temperatures, heavy rainfall, and numerous tunnels along the route, the trains are enhanced with anti-corrosion and thermal insulation properties. The air conditioning system is equipped with pressure protection devices to reduce pressure fluctuations inside when passing through tunnels, easing the discomfort such changes may cause to passengers' ears. Under each row of seats, there are USB ports and power sockets that comply with both Chinese and Laotian standards. The service signage and passenger service information displays of the entire vehicle are provided in Chinese, Lao, and English, ensuring a convenient travel experience for international passengers.

The fifth Lancang train, which is being built by CRRC for the China-Laos Railway, will be put into operation soon. The new train will feature further upgrades to passenger service facilities, delivering an improved travel experience, and better supporting the growing demand on the China-Laos Railway.
