Recently, the Suixi Jianghong-Lemin 100MW wind power project completed the installation of its first 185-meter hybrid wind turbine tower. It is not only the highest onshore wind turbine tower in the world but also the first wind power project globally with an ultra-high anti-typhoon tower implemented in an area with frequent typhoons.
Total installed capacity of the project reached 100MW with 22 wind turbines, which are all double-fed wind turbines specially designed by CRRC Zhuzhou Research Institute for areas with frequent typhoons. The lower part is 85 meters high, the upper part is 97 meters high, the impeller diameter is 195 meters, and the swept area equals to that of 4.2 standard football fields. One rotation of the impeller of a single turbine can generate approximately 8.6 KWH of electricity.
CRRC Zhuzhou Research Institute further optimizes the Data Acquisition and Surveillance Control System (SCADA) and the Health Checkup System, and improves the control strategy and the blade design while adding the lock function for electric blades to ensure both the stable operation of the turbines under conditions of varying wind speeds and directions and the safety of the turbines when a typhoon strikes.
