CRRC Qingdao Sifang Rolling Stock Research Institute Co., Ltd (hereinafter referred to as CRRC SRI) was founded in 1959 and transformed from a scientific research institution into a company in 2000, which is affiliated with China CNR Corporation Limited. CRRC SRI becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of CRRC Corporation Limited in 2015 when China CNR Corporation Limited merged with China CSR Corporation Limited as CRRC. The company covers an area of more than 200 thousand square meters, where the headquarter located in Ruichang road Shibei district covers an area of 70 thousand square meters and the industrial park areas in Qingdao National High-tech Industrial Development Zone covers an area of 130 thousand square meters. The company’s registered capital is 1.29 billion Yuan, with 2 wholly-owned subsidiaries and holding shares of 6 joint ventures.

With more than 50 years of development, CRRC SRI has become the major professional and large-scale research and production base of the key systems and parts for China's rail transit, and the important supplier of technologies and products for China's rail vehicle key systems.

CRRC SRI implements the development strategy of “expand the technology R&D and the industrialization of technologies simultaneously”, develops industry basic technology research and technical support, laying emphasis on the development of core industries of electrical products, anti-vibration products, coupler & draft gear, brake system, intelligent equipment, green energy saving system, signal system and other key systems for railway vehicles, and provide the customers with the core system integration solutions.

In the process of railway equipment modernization, CRRC SRI participates in and leads the independent innovation of key technologies for the high speed EMUs. The core technologies of CRRC SRI has reached the domestic leading and international advanced level, which is an important part of the high end industrial chain of the rail vehicle industry in China. The high speed EMUs and the high-power AC drive electric locomotives which have been put into operation are equipped with our company’s products such as electrical products, anti-vibration products, coupler & draft gear and brake system etc.. CRRC SRI has provided the advanced key systems for high-speed EMUs running in high and cold area, high speed EMU sleepers and other high speed trains, and improved the passenger's ride experience. We have also provided the anti-vibration products, terminal connection device and intelligent passenger information system for the Chinese standard EMUs, so as to assist the high end equipment of China rail transportation "enter into the international market".

In the field of urban rail vehicles, CRRC SRI has conquered the three core technologies of traction drive system, TCMS and brake system, and is the first company in China realizing the integration of the three core systems of rail transit. In the related diversified market and overseas market, CRRC SRI has successfully entered the business fields of rail transit communication signal, green energy saving, maintenance equipment, automobile anti-vibration and engineering anti-vibration etc.. The anti-vibration products, coupler & draft gear and electrical products have entered the international market in succession.

With the development of core businesses, CRRC SRI also attaches great importance to the R&D capability and production capacity building. The company is the national enterprise technology center, and has established a relatively complete R&D, testing system and standardization, and information management system. Since its establishment, the company has won more than 180 science and technology progress awards of national, provincial and municipal level and from the ministry of railways, including the special award of National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology. The company possesses 478 authorized patents, including 52 Foreign inventions, 130 domestic inventions, 289 utility models and 7 design patents. CRRC SRI has successfully provided the solution of plateau oxygen supply and electrical equipment safety for the Qinghai-Tibet passenger train project, thus won the special award of National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology.

CRRC SRI has passed the certifications of ISO9001:2008 quality management systems, international railway industry standard (IRIS),  ISO14000 environmental management system, OHSAS18000 occupational health and safety system, and ISO/TS16949 automobile industry standard system. It also in charge of the management of railway rolling stock standards and is the information center of rolling stock.
