On July 30 local time, the fifth Lancang EMU developed by CRRC pulled the C96 train out of Vientiane Station and headed towards Boten Station.

The EMU runs at up to 160 km/h and provides business, first, and second-class seating. The business-class seats are updated with the 1+1 herringbone layout, allowing adjustment between sitting and lying positions. For the first time, the business-class seats feature an intelligent display, providing passengers with travel information, entertainment options, and other services for a more intelligent, convenient, and comfortable experience.

Thanks to an updated coating process, its body glossiness exceeds 95, resulting in a mirror-like surface. The new environmentally-friendly coatings have been applied and the varnish is about three times thicker compared to conventional standards, making the train better adapted to the tropical climate conditions in Laos for its efficient and consistent operation in the long run.

Since its inception, the Laos section of the China-Laos Railway has served more than 10.05 million passengers. The new Lancang EMU is expected to further increase the frequency of services in the section, improving the average daily capacity by over 1,300 passengers and enhance cross-border transport efficiency.
