In 1959, "Qishuyan Casting Technology Research Institute of Railway Ministry" was established, which directly belonged to Railway Ministry and was led by Management Main office of Locomotive& Rolling  Stock Works. It was an independent research institution unit.

In 1961, Changed the name to " Qishuyan Hot Machining Technology Research Institute of Railway Ministry ".

In 1962, Combined with Da Tong Cold Machining Technology Research Institute of Railway Ministry, and confirmed the name to Qishuyan Locomotive& Rolling Stock Technology Research Institute of Railway Ministry.

In 1984, carried out the reform experiment of changing the institution cost into compensable contract system, then cancelled 60% of the appropriation of state institution units.

In 1985, cancelled all the appropriation of state institution units with its own will.

In 2000, joined into China South Locomotive& Rolling Stock Group, and its name was changed to CSR Qishuyan Locomotive& Rolling Stock Technology Research Institute, which completely retreated from state institution units.

In 2008, CSR Qishuyan Institute Co. Ltd. was established.
