On April 22, the world observed the 57th Earth Day under the theme “Cherish Natural Resources, Protect Beautiful China.” Aligning with this global call to action, CRRC Ziyang is translating the imperative of green development into tangible results.
As a pioneer in China’s new energy locomotive sector, CRRC Ziyang has consistently delivered on its green commitments. The company holds the nation’s first type certificate and manufacturing license for new energy locomotives, secured the industry’s first carbon footprint certificate, and successfully commercialized the HXN6 hybrid locomotive.
However, CRRC Ziyang’s green philosophy extends beyond the products it builds to the very process of how they are made.
A “Green Power Bank” for Manufacturing
Inside the company’s campus, a 10 MW/20 MWh energy storage station has been successfully integrated into the production power grid.
As the largest facility of its kind in Ziyang, the project was initiated by the municipal government and jointly developed by CRRC Ziyang and Ziyang Ruiyan Environmental Protection Energy Technology Co., Ltd., with Ruiyan managing the investment, construction, and operation.
Spanning 700 square meters and boasting a 15-year operational lifespan, the station was completed in December 2025 and officially commissioned in January 2026.
Functioning as a massive “green power bank,” the station utilizes an intelligent “peak-shaving and valley-filling” strategy. It performs two full charge-discharge cycles daily—storing energy during low-demand nighttime hours and discharging it during daytime production peaks. This smart management not only stabilizes the grid load but also leverages tariff differentials to significantly reduce operational costs.
Economic and Environmental Wins
The project delivers a compelling return on investment. It is estimated to save CRRC Ziyang over 600,000 yuan in electricity expenses annually, amounting to more than 9 million yuan in savings over its 15-year lifecycle.
From the rollout of green locomotives to the optimization of manufacturing processes, the commissioning of this energy storage station marks a significant milestone in CRRC Ziyang’s response to the national “dual-carbon” strategy.
