First Authoritative Carbon Footprint Certification! This New Energy Locomotive Becomes a Pioneer in Environmental Protection

Recently, CRRC Ziyang obtained the carbon footprint certificate of new energy locomotives (engine + power battery) issued by an international authoritative certification body, which is the first carbon footprint certificate obtained in the field of new energy locomotives (engine + power battery) in China.

This means that the new energy locomotive (engine + power battery) of CRRC Ziyang will be recycled after completing its 30-year service period from steel, and the carbon emission in the whole life cycle meets the requirements of green and low-carbon development. It is a new environmental protection locomotive to implement the national "Dual Carbon" goal.

For the new energy locomotive (engine + power battery), CRRC Ziyang has implemented the concept of low carbon and environmental protection in all aspects such as design, production, manufacturing and maintenance of this locomotive. Through the introduction of lightweight design, green electricity use and high-efficiency production technology, the carbon emission of locomotives is effectively reduced and the overall energy efficiency level is improved.

The 1,000kW "engine + power battery" locomotive has a carbon emission of 7.40 kg CO2 equivalent per kilometre.

Based on the accounting premise of 30-year operation cycle, 1,000 tons load, 40% of standard operating speed and green power consumption, the carbon emission of each new energy locomotive with "engine + power battery" in service period is reduced by 61.7%. Compared with diesel locomotives with the same power, it reduces carbon emissions by 2,735 tons. Its environmental protection benefits are equivalent to that of cycling around the earth for nearly 1,367 times and a total journey of 54.7 million kilometers. It shows a strong green substitution effect.

This new energy locomotive has not only achieved remarkable results in carbon reduction, but also particularly outstanding results in reducing pollutant emissions.The data show that the "engine + power battery" locomotive can reduce nitrogen oxide emission by 45%, hydrocarbon emission by 73% and carbon monoxide emission by 83%. According to the calculation that pollutant emissions are reduced by 45%, one locomotive can save 4 tons of harmful substances and 374 tons of carbon emissions every year. This environmental contribution is equivalent to planting 34,000 trees every year.

In terms of economy, this locomotive also performs well. The hybrid optimal control technology is adopted to ensure that the diesel engine always operates at the best economic speed. Under the condition of filling the same tank of fuel and hauling 3,000 tons of goods on a straight track, the endurance mileage of "engine + power battery" locomotive exceeds 1,100 kilometers, which is 1.7 times that of internal combustion locomotives, and the fuel saving rate exceeds 45%, which can bring significant economic benefits to operators.
