On August 18th, 2017, CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co., Ltd. and Sri Lanka Railways signed a contract for supply of 9 sets of DMUs(90 cars) in Colombo of Sri Lanka. This is the fourth order won by CRRC Sifang for export of DMUs to Sri Lanka.

Each of the nine sets of DMUs (90 cars) consists of two motor cars and eight trailers. The maximum running speed of DMU is 120 km/h and will be operating on the Upcountry Line in Sri Lanka. The new DMU will be “tailor-made” according to local geological and climatic conditions and operational needs. Based on the technical advantages of previous DMUs exported to Sri Lanka, modern control system, advanced bogie technology, new air-conditioning system and passenger information system for saloon will be adopted. Ergonomically designed interiors will greatly improve passenger comfort and further enhance service quality.

It is reported that the railway is the most important transportation mode for the Sri Lankan people. In 2000, 2008 and 2012, CRRC Sifang exported 3 batches of DMUs, totally 43 trains (300 cars) to Sri Lanka, accounting for more than 50% of the total number of vehicles operated by Sri Lanka Railways. These DMUs manufactured by Chinese meet the needs of different operating environments such as plains and mountains in Sri Lanka. They have withstood the test of complex operating environments such as high temperature and high humidity, long slope and small curves since they were put into operation. The superior operation quality of the trains and after-sales service has won the recognition of the Sri Lanka Railways and the local people. The signing of this supply contract represents the fourth DMU order won by CRRC Sifang for Sri Lanka. At present, CRRC Sifang has become the largest supplier of railway passenger equipment in Sri Lanka.
