In the morning of July 4th 2018 the Singapore driverless metro trains driving out from CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co., Ltd were delivered to the client. The rollout ceremony was held at Mandai depot in Singapore.
This driverless metro train will be put into operation on Thomson-East Coast Line. "Driverless" is the most prominent feature of this train. Manual control is not required during the procedures of "wakeup, drive out of the shed, stop at station, door open/close, departure, run back to shed, train washing". Automatic train service can be realized.
The carbody is made by aluminum alloy and the max running speed of the train is 100km/h. In some of the trains about 1/4 of the seats are tip-up seats which can be folded up during the peak hours, therefore more standing passengers can be carried in the train.
4-car composition is adopted for each train. Each side of a car is arranged with 5 doors through which the passengers can board/alight more smoothly. It is the first time that metro vehicles with 5 doors on each side are put into service in Singapore.
This project for Singapore driverless metro trains includes 91 train-sets (364 cars). This contract was awarded to the consortium composed by CRRC Sifang and KHI on May 28th 2014.
