On May 11 (local time), the inauguration ceremony for the modernization of Mexico City’s light rail system was held. Clara Brugada, the mayor of Mexico City, attended the event and announced that 17 new light rail trains manufactured by CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. have been put into operation. As a key urban transport initiative in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, this project signifies that Chinese-made rail transit equipment is set to play a critical role in supporting major international events.

With the deployment of the new trains, the line's daily passenger capacity has increased from 110,000 to 250,000. The minimum headway will be shortened to 4 minutes, further enhancing operational efficiency and reducing passenger waiting time.

It is known that the route, stretching from Tasqueña to Xochimilco, serves as a vital transportation artery in southern Mexico City. With a total length of 13.04 kilometers and 18 stations, it provides direct access to the Estadio Azteca, where the opening ceremony and multiple matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held.
