On November 16 local time, the section between Juanacatlán Station and Observatorio Station of the Mexico City Metro Line 1 modernization project, undertaken by CRRC ZELC (CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd.), was officially inaugurated. With this, all 20 stations along the line are now fully operational, marking a milestone achievement for the Mexico City Metro Line 1 project.
Since the commencement of the project, the project team has ensured the on-schedule progress through meticulous planning and organization. Through continuously optimized construction plans, reverse scheduling, and innovative technological processes tailored to the Project's specific conditions, they overcome challenges including geological subsidence, water seepage in tunnels, and overlapping construction activities. Key milestones, including the completion of track-laying and electrification in the section, were successfully reached. While upholding safety standards, the team effectively controlled the construction schedule, boosted the morale of all staff, and earned high recognition from the Mexican Federal Government, the Mexico City Government, and the STC Metro.
Manuel, a local resident, said that he works in western Mexico City, but lives in the eastern part of the city. Previously, his one-way commute from east to west took at least two and a half hours, and during peak times, it could take three to four hours. He had to wake up at 5 a.m. every day and often wouldn't get home until 9 p.m. Now, the full opening of Line 1 cuts his one-way commute to just 45 minutes, while offering a smooth and comfortable riding experience. Manuel commended CRRC's work and expressed his hope that the company would participate in more rail transit projects across Mexico.
