On the morning of August 21, the grand celebration for the 60th anniversary of the founding of Tibet Autonomous Region was held. Across this vast land, the Plateau Fuxing bullet trains, jointly developed by CRRC ZELC, CRRC Dalian, and CRRC Puzhen under the coordination of China State Railway Group, are now shuttling between Lhasa and Nyingchi.
The Lhasa-Nyingchi Railway, which commenced operation on June 25, 2021, ended the history of no railway service in southeastern Tibet. Over the past four years, Tibet’s distinctive agricultural products and ethnic handicrafts have reached beyond the plateau via the railway. The freight volume at Nyingchi Station surged from 'tens of thousands of tons' in 2021 to 'over 300,000 tons' in 2024, demonstrating exponential growth.
In recent years, the 'railway + scenic spots' linkage model has matured. The tourism train from Xining to Nyingchi launched since March this year has promoted the coordinated development and utilization of cultural and tourism resources between Qinghai and Tibet, doubling passenger flows at attractions along the route such as the Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon. Local handicrafts have also ridden the 'express train' of tourism services, with sales nearly tripling.
