On April 23, 2025 (local time in Mexico), the second section (Segment B: Cuauhtémoc-Chapultepec stations) of the Mexico City Metro Line 1 Comprehensive Modernization Project, undertaken by CRRC ZELC, was put into operation, marking another milestone achievement in the project’s phased objectives.
Claudia Sheinbau, President of Mexico; Clara Brugada, Mayor of Mexico City; and Zhu Jian, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in Mexico, attended the ceremony.
The newly opened section has interconnected with the first section, Section 2A and other metro lines across Mexico City, which has effectively alleviated traffic pressure of Mexico City, significantly optimizing its capital's rail network function, expanding urban development space and promoting regional economic growth.
Feedback from resident Benoñica offers the best testament to the new line. She mentioned that previously, she had to wake up early everyday to prepare breakfast for her child and take him to school, then transfer between buses for work near Paseo de la Reforma. Now, with the opening of the new section of Line 1, nearly half of her daily commuting time has been saved while enjoying a fast and comfortable travel.
