【Technology-Led Innovation】CRRC-Led International Standard for Rolling Stock Transformers Officially Released

FORM: 27/05/2026 Browse number:

Recently, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) officially released the international standard IEC 60310:2026, Railway Applications - Rolling Stock Transformers and Reactors. Led by CRRC Group and jointly developed with technical experts from multiple countries, the standard marks an important breakthrough for China in the development of international standards for core electrical equipment in rail transit. It also demonstrates CRRC’s technical strength and influence in international standard-setting as a global industry leader.

The newly released international standard establishes globally unified technical specifications for traction transformers, auxiliary transformers, and reactors used in rail transit rolling stock. It applies to electric multiple units, electric locomotives, and related auxiliary equipment. The standard systematically defines key performance indicators, including temperature rise, insulation, partial discharge, losses, vibration, and noise. It fully considers the complex operating environments of rail transit, such as high temperatures, high humidity, strong electromagnetic interference, and frequent load impacts. As an authoritative technical basis for the design, manufacturing, inspection, and mutual recognition of such core components worldwide, the standard will help improve the reliability, safety, and durability of rail transit equipment.

Traction transformers, auxiliary transformers, and reactors are core components of rolling stock traction drive and auxiliary power supply systems, directly affecting train power performance, operational safety, and overall reliability. CRRC’s successful leadership in developing this international standard reflects China’s solid technical foundation in this field.

As the world’s largest rail transit equipment supplier, CRRC has continued to contribute Chinese expertise to the development of international standards. To date, among the 128 current international standards released by the IEC Technical Committee for Electrical Equipment and Systems for Railways (IEC/TC 9), 14 have been led by CRRC, covering multiple core areas such as train wireless backbone networks, traction transformers, high-voltage electrical equipment, and fuel cell systems. The release of this new standard is another important achievement in CRRC’s efforts to support the global expansion of technologies and products through standard-setting, while deeply participating in and helping shape the global rail transit standards system.
