The 50th Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions recently concluded in Geneva, Switzerland. CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd., in collaboration with MTR, was awarded the Silver Prize for their jointly developed Train Performance and Health Monitoring (PHM) System.
The PHM system integrates big data analytics, artificial intelligence, and IoT technologies to provide real-time monitoring, diagnostic analysis, fault prediction, and health assessment of key train components. It significantly enhances operational safety, reduces maintenance costs, and improves train availability. This international award marks CRRC Changchun's advancement to a global leadership position in intelligent rail maintenance.
In 2023, CRRC Changchun and MTR's rolling stock maintenance team jointly developed and launched the PHM system for Korean Rotem subway trains on Hong Kong's East Rail Line. The system has achieved major breakthroughs in optimizing maintenance efficiency, improving service quality, and enhancing operational reliability. Building on this success, CRRC Changchun will extend the PHM system to five additional train models across Hong Kong's South Island Line and Tuen Ma Line, with the aim of delivering a high-performance, dynamic, and future-ready health monitoring platform.
Yu Huarong, head of the Chinese delegation and Secretary-General of the China Association of Inventions, remarked that China's technological innovation and intelligent products are gaining global recognition, demonstrating the strength of "Intelligent Manufacturing in China."
Established in the 1970s, the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions is one of the world's longest-running and largest invention fairs. This year's five-day event featured over 1,000 inventions from nearly 40 countries and regions, spanning a wide range of industries. CRRC Changchun's award not only highlights China's innovation capabilities in high-end intelligent equipment, but also contributes reliable, efficient solutions to the global rail transit sector—bringing China's smart technologies to the world stage.
