Recently, at the ANSYS 2024 Simulation World China held in Suzhou’s Taihu Lake, CRRC Yongji Electric Co., Ltd. won the Best Industry Application Award in the Global Simulation Application Competition for its project “IGBT Module Thermal Management Solution for Rail Transit Converters Using Digital Twin Technology.” This innovative approach integrates simulation technology with real-world engineering challenges, offering significant advantages in enhancing design efficiency, optimizing product performance, reducing costs, and promoting environmental sustainability. The project was highly praised by experts worldwide.
A motor simulation expert from CRRC Yongji Electric Research Institute attended the conference as an invited speaker and presented the company’s latest research on IGBT module thermal management simulation technology in the Sustainability & Energy session.
Advancing Digital Twin Technology in Rail Transit
The awarded project is based on CRRC Yongji Electric’s traction system digital twin simulation platform, enabling real-time optimization of converter devices and cooling systems within seconds. It effectively addresses chip loss distribution issues in parallel connections, improves IGBT simulation accuracy to over 98%, and allows real-time dynamic monitoring of IGBT module junction temperatures. This provides a more precise, efficient, and intelligent thermal management solution for rail transit converters.
With the rapid growth of digitalization and intelligent technology, digital twins are being increasingly applied across industries. CRRC Yongji Electric has developed a train-level traction system digital twin platform, integrating equivalent digital circuit models, vehicle dynamics models, multi-physics reduced-order models, and multi-timescale data-matching algorithms. This system enables rapid simulation validation of designs, virtual testing under extreme conditions, and real-time monitoring of traction system operations, significantly improving simulation accuracy and design capabilities. By leveraging digital twin technology, CRRC Yongji Electric is enhancing high-end equipment manufacturing capabilities and driving the digital transformation of rail transit.
