As wind power technology advances, the capacity of individual wind turbines continues to grow, creating greater heat dissipation challenges. Efficient cooling is essential to improving power density and ensuring long-term operational reliability for large-scale offshore wind turbines.

Through a strategic collaboration, CRRC Yongji Electric, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Ganjiang Innovation Research Institute, and the CAS Institute of Electrical Engineering successfully developed and applied a new evaporative cooling system, addressing the increasing thermal demands of high-power offshore generators. This breakthrough enhances cooling efficiency, reduces motor loss, improves insulation performance, and strengthens sealing technology, supporting the next generation of offshore wind turbines.

  Key Technological Advancements

Evaporative cooling circuit optimized for wind turbines, leveraging phase-change heat transfer to significantly enhance cooling performance.

Low-loss motor design, using optimized materials and structural refinements to reduce eddy current losses and improve efficiency.

Advanced insulation technology, featuring electric field simulation analysis to reinforce insulation in high-stress areas.

Next-generation sealing system, rigorously tested under vacuum pressure, vibration, and extreme conditions to ensure long-term reliability.

Innovative rare-earth permanent magnet materials, reducing heavy rare-earth content while improving magnetic performance and lowering costs.

This milestone marks a significant step in China’s independent development of high-power offshore wind technology, establishing a fully localized production chain from design to manufacturing. It strengthens China’s global competitiveness in offshore wind power equipment and expands the utilization of marine energy resources.

The R&D process was highly time-sensitive and complex, requiring seamless coordination between expert teams. Engineers from both institutions worked closely to overcome design and manufacturing challenges, successfully advancing the project from initial concept to full-scale prototype testing.

The launch of this project reinforces CRRC Yongji Electric’s role as an industry leader, demonstrating its commitment to innovation-driven development and advancing global wind energy solutions.
