SDD17 Diesel Locomotive

SDD17 diesel locomotive is a kind of mainline passenger and freight locomotive developed and manufactured for Saudi national railway. The axle load is 25t. It equipped with 12V280ZJ diesel engine, diesel engine electronic injection system, AC auxiliary electric transmission system, AC-DC main transmission. It has the function of resistance brake and self load. The auxiliary transmission of locomotive is divided into AC and DC. The locomotive has one drivers cab, with outside corridor, cover and load-bearing body. It adopts double three-axle bogie, the axle arrangement is Co-Co. Each axle is driving axle with traction motor, arranged contraposition inside. It adopts air braking system of 26L, with the function of double heading in consist.

SDD17 diesel locomotive is developed and manufactured mainly under the consideration of the running environment, climate condition and customers’ special requirements of railway in Saudi. To treat the locomotive running reliability as the center, and given consideration to the advancement of locomotive. To ensure reliable running and safety of the diesel engine and electric control device, it adopts a series of protection measures on design. On locomotive electric control, it has protection measures for main alternator overcurrent, braking resistance overcurrent, resistance braking device damage, main circuit grounding. It adopts complete microcomputer logic control technology, ETCS and GSR used for mobile communication.
